It seems Zoomers are more satisfied with their lives than those in younger demographics.

Statistics Canada has released their findings on the life satisfaction among Canadian seniors today, based on findings from the 2016 General Social Survey on Canadians at Work and Home.

Highlights of the report include:

Seniors are more satisfied with their lives than those in younger age groups.

The domains seniors are most satisfied with:
Safety
Quality of local environment
Personal relationships

Insufficient retirement income was related to a lower level of life satisfaction.

“This report reinforces the importance of social inclusion as a key priority to ensure that older Canadians can live fulfilling lives no matter their age, postal code or pocket book,” says Wanda Morris Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer, “We know that those with health or financial challenges are less likely to leave their homes, leading to social isolation, disengagement from their communities, and a lower life satisfaction.”

Morris continued, “The exclusion of people living in long term care and assisted living facilities is a missed opportunity to hear from all older Canadians, regardless of where they live. While everyone defines quality of life differently, we should not exclude the most vulnerable among us.”

“We look forward to working with Canada’s new Senior’s Minister, Filomina Tassi to address some of the key challenges identified in the survey results, including the correlation between financial security, personal safety and quality of life,” said Laura Tamblyn Watts, Chief Public Policy Officer.
